I have heard several people speek of the steering on the Camry seems to be loose or has some problem. I did not find it at first. We have only had the car a short time and I still have not had enough time to evaluate the problem. I have quite a bit of experience with sports cars of all kinds and a few race cars. The steering does seem to grab every little ripple in the road and any bump or dip. I am not sure why this is, however some cars set up for the track feel this way but they are RACE CARS not to be driven on the street. On another forum I chewed some poor guys but for whining about this. I am sorry I did not give him a chance to explain further. The truth is the last thing a new buyer wants to hear is a problem with the car they just laid out big bucks for. But back to the issue it is real I have found the steering flops left in a hard turn and you can feel it pull the wheel if you drive in a circle in a parking lot. I have also felt it in a left hand turn driving on the street. The street is a 90 left hand turn by my house but you can drive it at 20 MPH or faster. Some people have washed out and went into the guys yard that lives on that corner. So it is a hard left hand and again the wheel pulls hard if I was not holding it tight it would go full left and the car would crash or spin.
The issue with the road surface is another head scratcher,is this just agressive steering? I would not want my grandmaw driving it with this kind of steering. If Toyota set up the steering to have optional ESC and the car reacts wrong because of that not being installed ,maybe they should have to install it to correct this problem. please post your steering evaluation and lets see if anything gels. i do not like the little side ways jerks the car does when youb hit a small dip or bump. Our roads here in Norther New Mexico are anything but good so I have the surface to feel all this. The rest of the car seems ok but I am still under a K miles on the car. remember others have felt this but were blown off as paranoid.
