I am a "proud" owner of a 2002 Camry SE. I was impressed with it, until my wife got a 2001 LE. Just for the record, both cars are Automatic Trans. Both cars are 4 cyl., but her car seems to be geared alot lower than mine. We have "raced" on back roads, and from a dead stop, her car gets a much faster jump on mine. She hits the gas and she is off like crazy. But, at the same time, I am literally putting the pedal to the metal in mine, and cant catch up until she lets off the gas. I just figured it was a weight difference in the car, seeing as how the 2002 is MUCH heavier than the 2001. Last week, my car went in for service, the type that takes 3-4 days. They gave me a 2002 Camry LE as a loaner. I noticed a difference in performance before I got to the end of the road. I slam on the gas like I would in my SE, and the RPM's shoot up, and it drops to a lower gear, and takes off! I was very impressed. Now the question is, WHY WONT MY SE DO THAT??? I talked to the service manager at the dealership, and he said that there is no reason it should be different. Both cars are geared and configured exactly the same way. So why is it that when I floor the gas pedal in my car, it never downshifts to get better performance? And why does the LE? I paid 6K extra for what I thought was the sport edition. Can anyone help me out here?
