I was wondering if anyone had any trouble with
their stock alternators being particularly weak when it
comes to adding some speakers/amp/new stereo etc. My
lights dim a little when my bass hits and was wondering
how other people handled this problem ie capacitors
or alternators and if so what brand and what were
the results. I have a '98 by the way

How many watts are you pushing? I added a sub and
amp (Kenwood pushing maybe 175 RMS). I have no
problems with it. If you do run into problems...you can
either upgrade your alternator or use 1/2 farad
capacitor.

I have the same problem with my 2000 Camry. I was
told that Toyota does not make any stronger
alternators. If you find anything out let me know.We have 2
2.0 Faret Caps and still it fades.(2 Gauge Power wire
is being used)

I have A Rockford Fosgate 400.4 amp bridged to
200 x2 with the Fosgate fuse block on the battery
lead and the remote lead is to the pack of my pioneer
head unit. One friend recommended little things like
making sure that the ground has direct contact with bare
metal, keep the amp gains about half way etc. My friend
works at Best Buy so I will prob have to get a couple
caps since it sounds like there are no performance
alternators. I may also look into some better wiring since the
kit I used was from my old car.....any other help
would be good and I'll keep posting with any I find
also--in the mean time at least I can crank it during the
day

Preventative measures
1. make sure your ground
is at least as big as your power cable.
2. Make
sure the ground doesn't use more than 18" of wire from
the amp
3. Make sure you have a fuse on the power
cable

good luck
e
