I just bought a 98 camry and it has 101k miles and the check engine light just came one, anyone have any ideas? I checked gas cap, and thats fine I have a 1999 camry 3.0 eng. with 180,000 miles on it. have had 2 check eng. light in that time. The first was a eng temp sensor code. replaced the sensor diy very easy and about $30. for parts. The second is a code 420 cat. coverter which I am dealing with now. I suggest for your problem that you do a code scan ( very easy ) and cheap if you do it yourself. You will need a code scanner which can be borrowed from most major auto parts stores. The read out will be a number which converts to a probable part to be looked at. The next step is to get a maintenance manual....Chiltons for about $20 or go to your local library. find the location of the problem part and inspect it for obvious damage.....connectors secure, etc. The most common errors are fuel cap which you already know, followed by o2 sensor, and code 420 cat. converter. Good luck. jac |
