Hey, I went to ExpressWay Oil to get an Oil change. They mentioned that I should have my injectors cleaned. So I had it all done. I looked under the hood while they were cleaning my injectors, and I noticed that the CAT in the Front of my V6 was glowing Cherry Red. The Check Engine light was on, but the temperature guage was normal. I talked to the mechanic there and he said that it is pretty common in there cars. Has anyone had a similar problem with their V6 Solara/Camry? I drove my car home and rev'ed it up for a while but the red-glowing was gone. The Check Engine light is still on. Is this a known problems for these cars? Is this a typical problem when injectors are cleaned? - The RobDude -

hello.... cherry red cat is a sign of a over rich mixture burning in the cat... baaad thing.....now you say it is gone...how did the "technicians...." clean your injectors? usually, in a monolithic cat, this is a sign of impending failure of the ceramic substrate in the cat. the excess fuel pollutes the ceramic, which eventually renders it non-operational. take it somewhere to see what codes it has developed. most cats can handle this ONCE or TWICE before failure. possibly, the "technicians...." did not turn off the fuel pump while cleaning injectors, which resulted in a very over rich condition. keep an eye on the mileage and performance to see if exhaust is plugging up...low power, high fuel consumption...and get the codes pulled out to see what triggered the check lite. hopefully, the code shows an over rich occurred but didnt continue. have the codes reset, then drive normally to see if code reoccurs. please post your findings. rotsaruck
