It's time to upgrade (I'm currently driving an old corolla). I'm thinking about a new camry but I've heard that they are a bit heavy and not that fun to drive. I'm also thinking about an Accord.. I'd love to hear your thoughts particularly on the camry. Here are the two cars: http://vlane.com/comparison/3252

My mother was in the market for a new car and almost bought a 2010 Camry XLE with Leather, Seat Heaters and a Sunroof. The car was 25,800 plus TT&L. I was able to get her a 2009 Accord EX-L with Leather, Seat Heaters and a Sunroof for $23,495 plus TT&L and the dealer through in wheel locks and splash guards.

Both are great cars, I looked at both when I bought my car. The Accord has more room and handles better, the Camry rides better and is quieter. But what did it for me was that people were reporting better highway mpg with the Toyota V-6 than the Honda V-6 so I went that way. I love my car, but I think I would be as happy with the Accord.

I would recommend buying one with the 3.5L engine. My parents have an 07 with the 2.4L eng, it's a great car, somewhat peppy for it's size and rides really smooth. I feel that the 2.4L maybe just a little underpowered for the vehicle size that's why I recommend the v6 option if you are looking for something fun to drive.

I recommend the SE 3.5L V6. I have an 09 LE V6 that get 36 mpg highway. I wish I spent the extra $1200 for the SE because you get 1)17 inch allowy wheels 2) Much better handling package and 3) nice charcoal interior instead of dishwater grey. My original Bridgestone tires wore out fast and I replaced the 16 inch wheels with el cheapo plastic hubcaps with 17" Avalon LTD alloys and Michelin tires. Shop the lot and get one with Michelins. This tire problem is all over the net.

*************************************

I alternate mid range and premium gas to take advantage of the spark advance feature (not available on the I4). 36mpg at 70 mph from Overland Park, Kansas to Cedar Rapids Iowa on I-35 & I-80. 33mpg driving 75-80. This is the norm, not the exception. Great gas mileage with the V6; poor gas mileage complaints all over the place with the I4. Look at places like Edmunds car reivews for both the Avalon and the Camry. The real world gas mileage is totally reversed from the EPA ratings when comparing either the 2.4 or the new 2.5 liter I4.

For example - two cars on the same link:

Review

Bought the new 2010 Camry LE4, Gold w/sunroof and alloy wheels. Now have 2500 miles. This car has never exceeded 20/gal. I like the interior/exterior design and features. 16 inch wheels with Bridgestone tires. The tires sound like truck tires. Extremely noisy

Then scroll down in that same link to this:

Vehicle

2010 Toyota Camry XLE 4dr Sedan (3.5L 6cyl 6A)

Review

I have been very impressed with this car. The seats are very comfortable, better than any other car I have driven. The driving is "plush" more than "sporty" which I prefer as I don't want to feel every bump in the road. The engine is quite powerful and has plenty of giddy-up. Braking is very sharp. Very quiet vehicle. Excellent turning radius. Gets up to 32 mpg on 87 octane when driven on highway even though it is advertised at 28 mpg (how often do you see that?). Visibility out the back of the car is still pretty good, and the rear view camera helps quite a bit. I feel like I am driving a luxury car. Good workmanship.

*****************

Last oil change, I mentioned to Debbie - service writer at Olathe Toyota - that "you won't believe this - but this thing gets 36 mpg. She said, yes I do, I hear it all the time. Just this morning a gal in an Avalon told me she got 33 mpg highway.

i suggest, getting the camry.

Fixing it is a breeze, and you get the performance and comfortableness. Its a really good bang for your buck.
