My friend owns a 92 LE V6 with 92k on it, no major probs so far, except the power window on drivers side failed and needed some replacement, cost him about 200$.. he also needs a new water pump and Timing belt change

but those are more of maintenence things then problems right?

ME
I got a 93 Maxima SE w/ 89k.. it has been a pain in the ass, my transmission went out at 86k, i got a rebuilt for 1200$, now its going again.. only 3k miles later!!! I heard Camry's are very reliable cars, I like the looks and all, but I want to know what are the frequent mechanincal problems on Camry's? is engine or transmission one of them?
I need something with a V6, good looks, good power, and most of all RELIABILITY

only car like that of 90-94 is Camry and Maxima..

let me know people

I have a '93 V6 XLE with almost 130,000 miles on it and it still runs like a champ. Never had any major problems with it either, just your routine maintainence. It still looks like new to(pics under "Project 93 Camry" in the photo section).

However my passenger window did go out a couple of years ago but that's because the belt that controls it slipped off the motor. I just bought a new one for about $80 and it hasn't caused me a problem since. I also changed my timing belt around 70,000 miles and haven't heard a peep from it since either.

So to answer your question, I would have to say my Camry is very reliable and wouldn't hesitate to buy another one if I had to.

SC

Check out "Consumer Reports Annual Car Buying Guide." It is available at your local bookstore and it has data that is compiled from surveys that are sent to customers that own vehicles. In the survey, customers make note of any problems that they have encountered. In the back, you will see indications on what problems were encountered with each model year. The Camry always ranks as a "Recommended" car--even on the USED CAR recommendations. Unlike a lot of publications, Consumer Reports does not accept advertising money from manufacturers--So, they give you everything straightforward without any preferences toward any manufacturer.

Also, check out J.D. Powers' rankings of manufacturers. Toyota always finishes in the top for initial QUALITY. Check out the May 5, 2000 issue of USA TODAY.

Anyway, you will notice that the Camry is regarded as one of the most reliable cars on the market. Toyota has been building quality vehicles for a long time--Their entire line is as good, if not better, quality-wise as ANY manufacturer's. So, personally, I think there is a difference in quality between a Nissan and a Toyota. Not all Japanese vehicles are the same

I have 78k miles on my 94 xle v6 Camry. I've changed the timing belt and taken care of the routine maintenace. This car runs great no problems other than my CD player I would like to replace. I traded an 87 Maxima in for this car and do not regret it one bit. Camry is just a better quality car.
HENRY
