Dear All, I notice that Camry, SV21 use the same 3S-FE engine as Corona, ST171,year 1991. So hopefully anybody can help me with the problem below. I recently have to replace my A/T tranny (Type: A140) for Corona ST171, Year 1991, 3S-FE engine with used Celica tranny (A140?), 3S-GE engine, Year ???? (the seller said) The bell housing (Tx body) was fit properly to the engine, however there are several additional sockets in this celica tranny which are not available in the previous corona tranny, as per detail below. A140 Transaxle (Corona) 1. O/D solenoid with 2 connector 2. Neutral Switch 3. Kick-down cable A140? (Possibly A140L, Celica) Same as above and additional below 1. 2 connector Socket, possibly backup speed sensor (near speedometer cable at Tranny body) 2. 2 connector Socket (near Neutral S/W) 3. O/D solenoid with 1 connector only Need your help if any of you could tell me the exact function of these sockets in this celica tranny. The symptoms I'm having righ now is it seems that the gear cannot shift to 1st gear when the gear stick was put into "D" position or "2" position, I have to move it to "L" position first to get the 1st gear and then move to highest one one by one. The O/D switch is also a bit different, it seems like when the O/D button activated the gear directly shifted to the highest gear, 4th gear, and not gradually from 1,2,3 like the previous one. Look forward to your reply ((( THX ))) Kuspuji

hello, the camry transmission is a a140e and is computer controlled in the 87-91. this is in north america. from previous engine swaps i have done, it looks like asian bound cars use different sensors to control tranny. north american cars have a unit called TCCS to control trans based on throttle, speed, and torque. the celicas of the same years used the same computers.... can yours solenoids and sensors from old tranny be placed on replacement tranny? thats what i had to do. including some valve-body solenoids. took a lot of time, but i got asian transmission working in north american car fine after that. lotsa luck

Hello too, Yupe!, you're exactly wright? just manage to find out that the 2 connectors near the neutral switch are solenoid 1 and 2, thus the new tranny is ECT-controlled, A140E, where the old one was not, A140, hydraulic controlled. I'm doomed than. Unfortunately there is no solenoid in the old tranny since it is hydraulic and only O/D solenoid is swapable. Do you happen to know how much this ECT-ECU cost there? It's going to be difficult to find it here in Indonesia. ((( THX )) Kuspuji

hello, you might be able to swap the whole valve bode from your old one. i was looking at one of my scrap tranny's. the only concern is where the electrical connector goes through the case. these are common hybrid problems, but if you grit your teeth you might be able to make it work. good luck
