Toyota Camry brothers and sisters... if your interested in turbocharging your camrys give E.L. Prototypes at Azuza Calif. (626) 812-4358. Look for Eric Lapka ( the owner ) or Karlo ... and tell them Justin sent you and they give you a good price... E.L. Prototypes is installing a 3S-GTE (japanese spec ) engine in my Gen 3 Camry ... They will start installing it this Sept. 7th and hopefully they'll be done in four days ( worst case they'll be done with in 3 weeks ) ... at the end of Sept. I'll be posting their work for ground zero all the way to finish ....

Which transmission are you using? I heard the the most common tranny used for the 3s-gte conversion is the 2vz-fe manual tranny.

tan

no... They can use the stock Japanese Spec. Tranny from the 3S-GTE it self. But, I'm going automatic just for the easy boost off the line factor. I'm getting a LEVEL10 tranny that they built for the Corrinas ( japanese spec/ european spec Camrys). It will be able to handle up to 800+ horse power...

Woa! How much is all that stuff gonna cost you? Also, what kind of performance difference do you expect? I don't know anything about a Japanese spec engine--3S-GTE???? You might as well speak Japanese to me because none of what you said makes any sense to me. Some of us are neophytes when it comes to Camry upgrades. Key me into what you are doing. Thanks.

the Japanese spec. 3S-GTE engine is from a MR2. By the way my engine arrived at the shop at friday night. I had some japanese goodies on it and I have a bunch of MR2 owners biting at the bit to buy them. Well, back to your question: basically the japanese spec. 3S-GTE has a ceramic coated turbo, it can handle more turbo boost than the american version, it has a better ECU, its redline starts at 7500 rpm instead of the american version starts a 7000 rpm, and it has an extra 25 horses too boot. I'm sorry but, I can not disclosed the amount I'm spending on the transplant but, I'll give you an estimate its between $4000 to $5000 dollars ... but they have different option on turbocharging your Camry to fit any budget.....

Interesting...in Europe and Japan, a Camry is a Camry/Vienta/Gracia/Mark II Qualis. All the same body (except the Mark II Qualis), and drivetrain, although the Japanese Camry offers AWD with teh 5s-fe, and a new, smaller 2mz-fe (2.5L, 200 hp, 188 ft-lb). The Caldina 21's come with the availalbe 3s-gte. The Carina's come with either the 7a-fe or 4a-ge. I don't see a Corrina in the Toyota Japan site....nor do I see that car in teh TRD Japan All-Parts catalog.
