Hello I am new to this group, and I have the following question. I have '96 Camry, 4 cylindar, have 91000 miles. when I first start the car in warm weather, the idle speed so low, the engine stall, I have to put one foot on gas to maintain at least 750 rpm to maintain minimum rpm and the other foot step on brake and then shift to "drive" to lock the idle, and then I can drive. Once the engine is warm up, the idle speed can maintain at 750rpm by itself when I start the car again. It only cannot maintain 750 rpm when 1st start in the warm weather, which cause engine stall, so I bring to the Dealer, and then they change the Idle Speed Valve Module in 2001, and everything went well, but it only last 1 year. April 2002, it idle again, and the dealer change the same Idle Speed Valve Module again, and this year, 2003, a week ago, it idle again, and the Dealer change Idle Speed Valve Module again. In 3 years, I change Idle Speed Valve Module 3 times, and the dealer said the Idle Speed Valve Module went bad because I use 87 octane gas, and they suggest me to use 89 octane gas, but in toyota manual, it said I can use 87 or higher octane, so I use 87 octane all the time. I doubt the Idle Speed Valve Module may have defeat, and the dealer check the toyota bulletin board that found no defeat, and the part is good. My question is: Does 87 octane gas cause Idle Speed Valve Module went bad? Thanks Mark

No, it should not matter. They for some reason can't figure out what the problem is and are jsut throwing out ideas. But that is not true. The car is supposed to operate on 87, and switching to 89 will not help your problem. This is a very odd problem, I'm stumped.
