I bought an 07 Camry Hybrid and they had to install the Sirius option since it wasn't on the car that was on the lot. I distinctly asked the salesman and the parts guy where the antenna would be mounted. They assured me that it mounted externally, on the trunk. When I picked up my car today, sure enough, they mounted the satellite antenna inside, on the front windshield behind the rear view mirror. I told them that the 07 Prius that my wife drove had an internal antenna and that the reception sucked (still working with Toyota to get that one fixed). Well I was assured that I would have no problem, so I took the car. Within 10 minutes the satellite radio started randomly dropping signal and re-aquiring. It makes it impossible to listen to. The dealer says they will research an external antenna. Believe me, they WILL get this right.
My question is this...........does anyone else have the 07 Camry with Sirius? Where is your antenna mounted and how is your reception? |

Well, I don't personally have one but I love to google and I have saw Forum posts in numerous forums about how sorry of reception the Camry gets with an internal antenna place where yours is.. I have heard many state that they have bought externals and put them on the roof of their Camry ... running the wiring in the door seals..

My was installed after-market, and is on the roof, where the drivers side meets the windshield. I've had Sirius on a few different vehicles, and I have never even heard of putting it on the interior.

QUOTE(gators70 @ Aug 22 2007, 07:28 PM) I bought an 07 Camry Hybrid and they had to install the Sirius option since it wasn't on the car that was on the lot. Where is your antenna mounted and how is your reception? Have you gotten this resolved? I just had Sirius installed on my 07 Camry Hybrid. The antenna is installed on the outside, but the reception is horrible. I was told that this is a known issue and until a solution comes down from Toyota, theres nothing they can do about it. Meanwhile, I paid almost $500 for a system I can't use. |

I have Sirius in my 07 camry, though it is an aftermarket one. Installed it myself with the auto install kit from Sirius. The antennae is on the center line by the rear window. The wire runs along the windo down to the trunk then to the inside by the rear seats. From here it is run along the bottom if the sills. Have had great reception.

FYI, I just bought my New 2009 Camry SE and I told the dealership salesman that I would not take delivery of the car without them installing an XM Receiver and Antenna to my JBL 440 Sound System. Anyway the dealership called me and told me the car was ready for delivery and I went to the dealership to pickup my new car and I asked where the antenna was, as I also had new Window Tint installed on the car as well. The Salesman said they installed it onto the rear window package tray inside the car and I thought, there is no way I will ever get good reception with it installed inside the car, especially with Window Tint contributing to blocking some of the signal. Whelp, I was right, as I drove the car off the lot and headed home and driving home I was terribly frustrated with not recieving the XM Reception and upon my ariving to my home that evening , I immediately called the salesman at the dealership and told him the signal would come and go and this was totally unacceptable. So moral of the story is, I drove the car back to the dealership the next morning and went into the parts department and asked the parts manager if they could order me a Color Keyed Satellite Antenna like the Corolla's have and he said Toyota would not warrant that type of installation and so they took the car back into the shop, to the technician that did the original install and he relocated the XM Antenna to outside the car, just above the center rear window on the roof and also routed the Antenna Wire under the window molding and down into the trunk so it would not be very noticeable. Even though I could not get a Color Keyed Corolla Antenna to match my cars paint like I wanted, at least my reception is 100% now and I can enjoy my XM Radio reception without any interruption at all. It is really disappointing that the Camry's, Avalon's do not have any type of External Satellite Antenna , be it for XM or Sirius Radio Recievers on these cars for the Satellite Radio enthusiast. Hope this helps. |
