If you really don't want to go to too much
trouble, you can replace the 6x9's and you'll hear a
significant difference. They're very easy to do as well. If
you want to go further, the 6"'s are easy too and
will make a bit of a difference. By just replacing
these two things, you will have a good system that
sounds clear but won't cost much.
A subwoofer will
make a huge difference to your audio system, but if
you do, you will probably start getting addicted and
sacrificing all your money. That's what I did! If you get a
Sub-woofer system, you also need to keep in mind that you
will probably need a new head-unit - (Standard Camry
unit does not have sub-out, you can rig one up
though.) You will also need amplifiers$$ and if you get
good subs, you will also end up wanting good sound
from the front stage which equals, Expensive 6" 2-way
splits and more amplifiers$$! Proceed with caution, and
know when to stop. Bass Addiction is an often
overlooked, but serious medical condition. I'm currently
undergoing treatment now... :)

Well yes the audio community is really biased. I
absolutely love JL...and will probably never go with
anything else...but I am not going to knock on someone
else's car, in which they have spent lots of time and
$$$ on, b/c he uses MTX, or Kicker, etc. I also hate
how stores will frown upon brands they dont
sell...and know very well those products are quality. Oh
well...it's all marketing. When it comes to Audiobahn, I see
cars with their products doing awsome in shows. Their
stuff is flashy...lots of chrome and
"bling-bling"..lol..and yet seems to do very well. Now when it comes to
L.A. Amps....I wish I could be of some help. I love
their wires and had one of their Capacitors until
recently....but not really sure about their amps. I had one
friend using a L.Audio amp...and he seemed to like it.
Just not sure to be honest. I am running AutoTek
amps....which hardly anyone knows about. They are definately
not cheap P.O.S.....retails for about $500 a
piece....(got a great deal on them BTW!)...but I pull up to
shows and alot of people ask me what are those amps.
Doesnt phase me that much b/c they perform well. Well I
need to get back to work...but Ill chat with you
later.

Hey...thanks for the vote of confidence. I guess
I will get that 2nd sub after all and figure out
which brand of amp I'm going with. I had a pair of
Audiobahn tweets and they were nice. A friend of mine
ordered a pair of the full range speakers for the front
and back of his car and I'm waiting to see how it
sounds so I can make a decision on if I'm going to go
ahead and make it a complete Audiobahn speaker
system.

I hear what you are saying about some dealers
frowning on the stuff they don't sell. I laugh when I go
to some places because they will swear that Sony or
Kenwood is the best out there. I am a Pioneer man at
heart, but will always believe that Alpine makes the
best head units out. I am biased in the items I will
use, but will NEVER push someone into using something
because of MY beliefs. I tell them to go with what they
think sounds and looks good to them.

On the subject of sound ... I just got a gen 4
Camry (2001) to replace my trusty 1987 Camry -
On
the stock CD that comes with the 2001, are there sub
outs on the amp?

Sub question - what is the
"weakest link" on CD system (I have the base stock CD, no
changer etc)
is it the speakers or the CD/Amp? In
other words, if I am going to replace just one thing in
the sound system, what will it be? Volume is fine,
clarity is a little muddy. I am thinking the front door
speakers and maybe adding a powered sub. thoughts???

On your average factory system, the weakest link
will always be your speakers. Honestly, I don't know
why anyone would change the rear speakers first when
those are the ones furthest away from your ears. I
would start from the front and go back. If you want to
clear up the sound, find you a nice speaker and put it
in. If it doesn't quite sound the way you like, don't
be afraid to add a tweeter and mount it up so that
it doesn't fire into your pant leg (that is where
sound is lost on speakers that are mounted in the
bottom of a door panel). Adding a tweeter up high opens
the sound up. Just making that upgrade will change
your sound dramatically. If you still don't like the
sound, then change your rear speakers. You should always
work your way up the chain. If after your speakers are
upgraded and you still don't like the sound, you may want
to change your head unit. You'll get much more
power, and you'll also get more sound control. If the
system isn't loud enough for you, then you can always
add an amp to the mix. If you add an amp to the
factory system, you'll have to use line out converters to
change the signal from hi to low. (basically going from
straight speaker wire to RCA connectors). The downside to
this is that you get distortion at lower sound levels
rather than if you had an aftermarket head unit with
pre-amp outputs.

If you would like some great
ideas on system upgrades or ideas on installations, go
to www.sounddomain.com

You will see a lot of
things that are just plain and you'll see even more that
will have you scratchin your head. They also have a
message forum that allows you to ask any questions you
have on ANY subject related to car
audio.

Remember one thing. When it comes to car audio, no
question is too stupid. If you don't know the answer, the
only way to find out is to ask.

Sorry read another post on the subject and I
agree with allmet_33. I have a 2001 Solara...and it
came with the JBL factory system. The sound was
good...but since I am a bit of an audio-fanatic....I wanted
to replace those high-ends. Definately change the
front speakers first. Luckly, my Solara came with
factory components...so when I replaced the factories...I
didnt have to cut a hole for the tweaters. At the
moment I have only replaced the front components and
added one of my old Rockford Fosgate amps to
them....which has dramatically improved the SQ of the car.
Basically I have utalized my Sony deck's equalizer to
almost turn off the rear speakers. In a car, you really
only have right and left...not right/left
front/back....unless you have a receiver that has surround-sound
capabilities for TVs (very expensive) Otherwise, unless you
have people in the back seat all the time....you would
benifit most from replacing the fronts and puting alot of
power to them.

When it comes to deciding
whether to bridge or not...that really depends on the
amp's capabilities and the ohm rating of the subs you
buy. I have 2 JL W-3 duel-voice-coil subs...and have
an amp pushing each running a 4 ohm load bridged.
Its kind of complicated. My speakers are rated 2
ohm....but when my amps are bridged to the DVCs...it
basically runs a 4 ohm load. What you need to do is see if
your amp is rated for 2 ohm stereo mode...then get 2
subs that will take that 2 ohm load. Talk to your
stereo store...they can show you diagrams and such.
Check out the following page for such a diagram. Its
basically the booklet that came with my subs. Its very
helpful and shows how to add multiple subs to one amp, or
mutliple amps to multiple subs. Do remember this is a DVC
sub, so its alittle different than the normal sub.

tmanana123 is putting out some very good info. I
got a chance to check out your system and I am very
impressed. VERY clean install. Well, now that my Camry has
been taken to the graveyard, I will not get to
contemplate my next install when I get my replacement Camry.

Hey Allmet_33....I am really sorry to hear about
the accident. I am glad you made it out safe and
sound. Well I hope the insurance company treated you
well....and if you need any help on the new car...just shoot.
Good luck on the search.

Toby

Thank you...it's all good. I do believe that all
things happen for a reason. The insurance company is
draggin their feet, but they are paying off more than I
expected since my car had 165,000 miles on it. LOL Anyway,
I will be getting another Gen 3 Camry and I will be
desiging a system for it in the meantime. I'm planning on
adding a 2nd Audiobahn DVC 12" sub. I've got one and it
hits nice and hard in a sealed box. I love it. I can
only imagine how 2 will work. Whew!

really sound good. I am a JL man...cant say enough about
JL....but guys who have Audiobahn are the same way....live
and die by them...lol. They definately make a good
product. Well good luck with the insurance company....and
keep us informed!

Tmanana...you are one of the first people that
I've heard say anything good about Audiobahn. I've had
a couple people laugh when I tell them...until they
heard it. Sad thing was that I only had about 175 watts
going to it. Since I didn't have the rest of the
speakers amped, it evened out nicely.

I used to
sell car audio equipment and I'm apalled at how some
people can't respect what someone else may like. A
couple of shops I've been to for advice were very biased
on what they sold, so now instead of going to shops
for advice, I read a lot and ask questions to people
such as yourself.

Have you heard anything good
or bad about Lighting Audio Amps?
