Timing Belt Snapped And Needs Replacement.

sup guys/gal,

i was driving one morning to pick up coffee and on my way home just outside my driveway my timing belt snaps. my friends and family say im in some trouble with expenses cause valves might have been bent. but i did a little research on the net and found that camry engines model 5S-FE are (non-interference) engines meaning if the timing belt snaps while driving, internal damage is unlikely to occur. so im relieved, to an extent ;).

now i need to learn how to throw on a new timing belt and i turn to 6thcamry.com for some help. does anyone here know where i can find a nice free repair guide on the net somewhere, maybe even somewhere here on these forums? pls help a fella out, it will cost me around $600 for the shop to do it and it kills me to spend $600 when i know im more than capable of doing this fix myself with a little help from internet. thanks in advance.

well rickeh, i guess your in luck because i have recently changed the timing belt on my camry(its a 94. i dont know if thats the year you have but i think that doesnt matter much because the engines the same), same engine as well.. one day i found this free repair manual onlime but i dont remember where exactly though, but i still have it and ill give it to you. its a pdf. file but im pretty sure that you have adobe or something like that.....? anyways, it comes with a bunch of files for everything that has to do with the car., but the file you'll be using is the one that says "eg1", it pretty much tells you everything there is to fixing a 5S-FE... i think the timing belt removal and installation starts at around pg 25, it says something like "eg1-25" in the top right hand corner. but it sure you can take it from there.
