My Camry V6 been through hell this summer. I help some peeps move from MD to SouthWest FL. The Camry did great with the gas mileage. I had the A/C on all the way.
I just took it to get the oil change, etc.
The Dealer is talking about I need to get the Transmission flushed for $89.99. I'm not sure why? Anyone know? The Camry runs and idles good...why would they suggest this?
Peace Out!

What the dealer probably means is a drain and refill (which doesn't drain completely). Occasionally you do have to replace the tranny fluid, like oil it wears down. Just go to a tranny shop, and they do more for less.

tan

Actually, the dealer is referring to a process in which a heated solution is pumped through the transmission using a special machine(pump). The process is designed to remove vanish and any deposits that have formulated. After the flush, new transmission fluid is added. If you just drain the transmission fluid, only about 25% of the fluid is actually changed. The rest sits down in the gear assembly and other cavities. By flushing, you ensure that the majority of the old fluid is removed. This is a big difference from just "draining the fluid." I had my Camry done and I definitely noticed a difference. My transmission is noticeably smoother. Of course, if your Camry is fairly new, the process may not be needed yet.

If you only have 28K miles, it probably isn't needed. I had mine done with my 45K service. But, again, $90 is not much when it comes to preventative maintenance on a $20K+ car. You can't do any harm by changing it early or more often. It's your money and your car. I strongly believe in preventative maintenance--meaning, I try to do maintenance to prevent bigger problems from occurring later. But everyone has their own philosophy.

If the colour of the fluid is orangy brown or if it smells burnt, then change it.
