Does anyone know if it is feasible to convert a
fwd camry/solara into an awd car. If so would there
be any major drawbacks in the conversion. I was just
curious because at some point adding all this power to
one of these cars will make it a real bear to drive
in anything but drag racing. Am I wrong?

Somehow you'll need to try to cram an RX300
drivetrain into the Camry/Solara. Keep in mind, although RX
shares teh Camry platform, it, like teh Avalon and
Sienna, is a stretched platform. Hope you have lots of
dough, probably gonna need a new ECU plus programmable
ecu (VVT-i issue), and an automatic transmission.
Plus you'll probably need to modify your rear
suspension to accomodate the rear drive axles.

I
assuming you're getting a SC, this means you can swap
pulleys whenever you want (a programmable add-on ECU
helps here). But I doubt the 1mz-fe cannot handle
anything above 10 psi reliably (aka 373 hp) without
mapping the ignition and air/fuel ratios.

Also
there are daily driven 600 plus hp Supras on the
street, there you're wrong. Let's not forget highly
boosted Hondas and DSM on the road also.

Anyway,
hope you have a manual trannsmission (ACT clutch
upgrade), or if you have a slushbox, invest in tranny
coolers.

tan

awd camry ... in the gen 2's (87-91)I think there
was a limited edition that was an all-track...if not
you can use the Celica All-tracks drive train... it
could possibly fit in a Camry or Solara set-up... And
as for Tan's suggestion on a piggy back computer...
you won't need it if your not doing any major
turbocharging or supercharging.... if interested to talk to a
Professional( who does major engine swaps and turbocharging or
supercharging) talk to Eric Lapka at E.L. Prototypes at (626)
812-4358 in Azuza. Just leave a message and he'll return
your call ( because there always busy). These guys are
the only ones that are close to TRD and cheaper...
