I put 17" Enkei RF-1 with 215/40-17 Yokohama
Parada tires on my 95 Camry LE 4-cly. Clearance wasn't
an issue. The handling is great now, especially
since I just put Eibach Pro-Kit springs on the car. I
wish that is got dropped more (there is still 2.5" of
wheel gap up front) but the ride wasn't compromised by
the addition. I woundn't go any bigger than 17"
though, because your car is gettin' older and the money
increase over 17" is insane for the small amount of added
benefits.

mbiker97: Isn't a 40 aspect ratio a little low?
According to my calculations, the closest thing to the
orginals (205/65/15) if you want 17" rims are 215/50/15.
If you go to a 40 aspect ratio, that may affect the
speedometer and odometer. I also have a 95, and was thinking
of going with the 50 aspect ratio.

215/50/17 are hard to come by, you will most
likely have to go with 215/45/17. I recommend the a520
yoko, if you do not mid the road noise. I just love the
handling. Warning, I had to bang the crap out of the rear
wheel fender fit the 17" wheel.

In fact, a 215/40/17 wheel and tire combo is
4.37cm smaller in diameter than what it should be. Maybe
that's why you're complaining of the 2.5" gap in the
wheel well. It would only be about 1.5" if your tires
are 215/50/17. Of course, the car will also be a bit
higher than what it is now. <br>To calculate diameter of
the wheel/tire take the tire width and multiply it by
twice the aspect ratio in the form of the decimal,
then, add it to the diameter of the wheel in cm (inches
x 2.54). So for a 215/50/17 wheel and tire, you
should get (215 x .50 x 2) + (17 x 2.54) = 64.68cm. The
stock 205/65/15 is 64.75cm. Your 215/40/17 is only
60.38. In terms of the overall rolling circumference,
such a tire is off by more than 13.7 cm (4.37 x 3.14).
You better speak to whoever recommended that tire
size...

Jeff is absolutely correct. Pay attention to your
stock size because that is what your speedo is
calibrated to. You want your overall circumference to be as
close as possible to your stock size--if you want any
speedo accuracy. Jeff's calculations and methods are
correct.<br><br>Also, when you increase your rim size, the car looks
lifted because the tire sidewall(aspect ratio) is
smaller. The smaller the sidewall, the larger the fender
gaps looks. If you go 17" rims, you may want to change
your springs to lower it and help eliminate some of
that fender well gap.

True it isn't the right size, however, my stock
tires were 195/70-14. Which means the right size would
be 225/40-17. The cicumference of the original tires
was 77.4, and the new ones are 73.5. Or about 5%
smaller so my speedometer is off by about 5% slow.
Meaning if the speedo says I'm going 52.5 I'm really
going 50.

I also considered money. 225/40-17 cost a whole
lot more than the 215/40-17 because the later is also
a Honda size so they sell more hence they are
cheaper. I am very happy with my choice in tires and
wheels. So I know they aren't the right size but they
work damn good and I didn't have to screw with the
fenders at all, even after I lowered it.

I couldn't get your numbers to work out right. I
was getting around 200 with the method it says in the
message. I found a site with a calculator on it which
seems pretty accurate. It even says which way your
speedo is out. <a href=http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

I agree, your second point is a definite must if
you opt for bigger wheels on your ride. I have a '93
with 17in RS11's and Falken 235/45/17 Ziex rubber. I
must say it was money well spent. I noticed a
considerable difference in handling especially when I take
turns and my smooth ride wasn't compromised either.
<br><br> At first I hand them on there without my 1.75 in
drop and I was getting all kinds of hell from my
friends about how high it looked and that the gap was way
to big. They would ask me things like, "hey, when
you buy that 4Runner?" It was all in good fun but I
must admit without my present drop it did look a bit
funny. <br><br> When and if you do lower your Camry I'd
go for the 1.75in drop. It goes perfect with 17in
wheels because it sits right on top of them and looks
very clean. If it were to be any lower it would
constantly rub and mess up the tires let alone the fenders.
<br><br> If you're curious to see how it looks I have pics
in the photo section under "Project 93 Camry". By
the way, not only do they look alot better than the
stockers but the setup fit perfect without any banging or
fender modification. <br><br>SC
