Powertrain Warranty Expiring - Recommendations?

Hello. I have a 2007 Camry - the powertrain warranty is up next month.

I maintain it well (have had it for about two years) and, fingers crossed, have not had any problems with it so far.

I last had it inspected/regular maintenace service (per Toyota manual) about six months ago (at a reputable shop, not the dealer - don't get me started on dealers....mine in particular, who seems to be little more than a cash grabber....).

Given the powertrain warranty is about to expire is there any merit at all in bringing it to the dealer for one "last inspection" before the warranty is up. Not even sure what they would inspect or whether they'd just do a regular maintenance/oil and filter.

Thoughts and suggestions welcome...
Thanks!

Side Mirror Damaged. Need Advice.

Hello everyone.

First off, I own a 1997 Toyota Camry. This car’s been so great to me and overall I can’t complain about it, considering that it has generally been problem free for the most part. But enough about my car. The reason I’ve come here is that I’ve got a small problem and I need some advice on what to do. Just yesterday, my wife (she is 72 years old, a great woman) was driving through a residential area (she says she was driving at around 20 MPH) when a driver parallel parked on the side of the street suddenly opened their driver side door. Their door collided with the passenger side mirror of my car and completely damaged it.

To be honest I haven’t done any online shopping thus far but have heard that one can find great deals ordering products from the internet. I’ve also heard that there exist many website that appear to be legitimate but are actually fraudulent scams. I’d like to purchase a replacement mirror online, but I can’t discern between legitimate and fake websites. I found two sites but now need to know, has anyone purchased from either of the following websites and can testify that they are a legitimate business? The OEM numbers of the parts on the sites match the part I need. Thank you.

go-part.com/9701-toyota-camry-side-view-mirror-left-driver-p-12758.html?src=googlebase http://www.go-part.com/9701-toyota-camry-s...?src=googlebase
or
automirrorsexpress.com/toyota/camry/all.html#MTI3NTg http://www.automirrorsexpress.com/toyota/c...ll.html#MTI3NTg

What Is This Problem And How Do I Fix It

I have a 1995 Camry DX-Ok so yesterday I was driving down the highway and all of the sudden the engine began to overheat. Immediately I turned on the heat and puled over to the shoulder, for some reason no heat was coming out of the vents though, but by the time I got there though the car shut off on its own... I popped the hood to find a cracked radiator. I thought the radiator would have been the only problem but after I changed it and the thermostat out we are still having overeating problems. It had plenty of antifreeze in it last night for the test drive, but the check engine light and the oil light were on. This is probably an electrical issue seeing as antifreeze was all over the wires everywhere when the radiator cracked. When we took it out for the test drive the car overheated again but we caught it before it got too bad this time. We were able to get the car home again but when we got home the car would no longer start. we noticed the radiator fans are both non operational but that can't be the only problem. When we try and start the car now the antifreeze reservoir is exploding like a geyser, like theres air being blown into it or something. My dad and I cn't figure out what this problem might be short of a blown head but we don't want to think the worst yet. The car has been in the family its entire life. it has 202000 miles on it and is a manual transmission, original clutch and it means the world to me, if anyone has any ideas that could help let me know.

How many Camrys have you owned?

So it all started with a little '86 given to us for free by some guy on the corner. "Just this once.", he said. I passed it to my boy and he started taking it to school. Fortunately he never got caught. His friends named it "Cronk" because that was what it looked like. Something pre-historic. My buddy painted it this awesome deep blue and the boy picked up some chrome wheels for it. I blew the transmission coming up the hill from Phoenix... he still hasn't forgiven me. My kids said he trashed second gear in my van as retaliation. The second one was an '87 we paid $300.00 for. Back doors wouldn't open. Trunk was stuck... I swear there was a body in there. I gave it to my son again. We nabbed the wheels off Cronk and junked her as a trade for parts for the "new" Camry. He lived in that thing until he joined the Marines and went overseas to Djibouti, Africa. We gave her back to the guy who sold it to us so he could make some money back that we owed him. While the boy was in Africa we got him a 2000 Celica. He trashed it in about 1 1/2 years after getting back. He's not driving right now.
Then my oldest daughter got waylaid by some guy on the corner with a '91... free again! "Just this once", he said. It was a pretty silver 2.0 5 speed with a dent in the roof where a tree fell on it. No rubber, no struts, bad gas pedal linkage cable and a cracked windshield. Here's where it gets interesting. It seems there's this God in heaven that cares about single moms whose husbands have left them. Next thing you know this little fixer upper is fixered up! New tires, new struts, new windshield, new linkage and two dents are gone with perfect paint... including the dent in the roof!!!?? So now she's zippin' around town and going to Phoenix... yeah, you guessed it. She overheats the engine going DOWN the hill and pulls it into a mall parking lot sounding like the grand finale of the ball peen hammer opera. Fortunately God is still with this girl and a GOOD friend drives down the hill to pick up the car and bring it home. Ran it low on oil... in Phoenix... in the summer! So she pours oil into it for about a month and decides to park it. Now she drives a 2010 Toyota Yaris!!! ...and I get the ball peen orchestra.
So it sits for about two seasons (Autumn and Winter) and on a lark I send it back to my buddy who keeps fixing, painting and selling all my Camrys. "Eetz prolly just a bearing or sontheen!" (He's Guatemalan... legal to boot). " I got a friend who will feex eet for ju." He did... the #1 piston arm bearing (or whatever you call it) was "shroomed" while the others were fine. two motor mounts were shot too. Fixed it all for $250.00! She still rattles a little on the top side at about 2500 rpms and the clutch pedal is high but with a perfect interior and an AC that blows like the wind... I'm stylin' in this little gas miser after setting my Ford F-150 pick-up off to the side yard.
Yep... I'm hooked, I might even be an abuser... and I did try to fix my own clutch pedal last night... I'm a card carrying member of CA... Camrys Anonymous. I may even head on down to that street corner to see if that fellas got something in the 2000 to 2005 range.
Pete from Prescott
Confessed Camry Abuser

2008 Camry 2.4 Engine Vibration

I have a 2008 Camry XLE 2.4. I noticed at idle when the AC is running ther is a bad vibration in the engine. It shakes a lot more than it should. The vibration stops when the AC is off. Took it to Toyota and they told me to get the fuel injection cleaned and that would take care of it. I did through them and it did not help.
Creaking sound coming from dashboard area

I have a creaking noise coming from the right front dashboard area. This occurs with any forward motion changes in speed such as starting from a stop, coming to a stop, or acceleration/deceleration in traffic. The dealership has worked on it 3 times, but is unable to solve the problem. they have investigated various possible causes including the glove box, front passenger window, ventilation conduit on that side, etc. They say there are no service bulletins for this problem. Has anyone out there experienced this or have ideas on how to address this? Oddly enough, during wet weather, the problem goes away, leading me to believe that friction between parts is the source and it is somewhere that water can get to and lubricate the contact points. I have explained this to the service tech, but they cannot seem to locate the source. Thanks.

How To Avoid Major Problems Before Purchase

Hi, I am in the market for a 2007-2008 camry with about 50K miles on it. After doing some research it seems that transmission and engine problems are prevalent in the early 6th gen camrys. Especially with the V6. From what ive been reading it seems that this transmission problem occurs when the car has low miles. So if I get one with over 50000 miles on it, could i assume that the transmission is OK? It also seems to be more of a problem on the 07 than the 08, but there have still been some problems with the 08 and 09 trans as well. so i basically need to know if all of the camrys have these problems or only a select few. And how to avoid buying one of these troubled camrys.

Water Pump On 08 Le 4 Cyl

Hello everybody, I am new to this forum and have a question. I was told at the dealership that my water pump is leaking and needs to be replaced. I have 63k on the odometer. After doing a little research online i have found that this is kind of common on 07,08 models and one report even said it caused a blown head gasket when it failed. I was wandering if anybody has had issues in this area. I am trying to decide weather to replace it or just keep an eye on it for now. Thanks ahead of time for any help. -Dan

2011 Camry Disappointing Safety Test Results

Sorry that I initially posted this to a different area. Hopefully this will go OK.
==================================================

I own a 2005 Camry LE . It is my third Camry, so I suppose you could say I am a real Camry
fan.

I just started looking at the 2011 Camrys and was shocked to find the results of the
current - 2011 model year - crash tests from both the IIHS and the NHTSA. Camry's
generally have done very well in these safety tests (e.g. 5 Stars for the NHTSA tests).

But, the 2011 Camry Overall Rating, Frontal Crash and Side Crash ratings from the
NHTSA were all 3 Stars. In addition, the IIHS ratings, although GOOD for both Frontal
and Side testing, was rated Marginal for Overall and Dynamic Rear Crash (Rating scale
is: Good, Acceptable, Marginal and Poor). This same Marginal rating is awarded for year
2007 through 2011 Camry Models.

I realize that the government - NHTSA - tests were changed for the 2011 model year
tests, to include additional parameters, which I assume, made the tests more difficult.

One might think that, perhaps, Toyota was blind-sided with the new government NHTSA
tests. But, apparently the new tests were supposed to be implemented for the 2010
models, but they were delayed a year to allow the automakers additional time to address
the new testing criteria. Also, the 2011 Honda Accord flew through the new Government tests with
their typical 5 Star rating Overall and for every individual test. Ditto for the newcomer -
2011 Hyundai Sonata. And, both the Accord and Sonata achieved the highest, GOOD rating
for the rear crash testing by the IIHS.

I don't know what the technical issue is that the 2011 Camry has with the new NHTSA
tests, but, apparently the IIHS Marginal rating for Rear Crash testing is due to the fact
that the Camry, unlike many (most??) competitors, including the Accord and the Sonata.
does not employ a dynamic or active head restraint system even though they have been
receiving the same Marginal rating for the IIHS rear crash test at least from the 2007
model year.

That is a long way of saying that, although I never doubted Toyota would sort out and
make right the recent unintended acceleration problem, and never doubted the overall
safety performance of the Camry, I now have doubts about Toyota's real commitment.
I realize that this is not an earth-shattering problem and that the Camry is certainly
"Safe." But, why has Toyota allowed the competition to gain such an advantage on these
safety issues?

Is anyone else concerned with this issue?

Charlie

I just bought a 2008 Camry SE V6 and am really disappointed in the gas mileage. The car has 33K miles and was a certified used car.
Metal Shavings On Transmission Fluid Dipstick

I have a 2001 Camry CE with about 61,000 miles. A few weeks ago I had the transmisson fluid changed (pan dropped then drained and filled) for routine maintenance at a Toyota Dealer. Today I had the oil changed at my local mechanic who showed me that there were metal shavings on the transmission fluid dipstick. I have never had this before, the fluid has always looked fine and have had no problems with the transmission. Years ago at 30,000 miles I had the transmission fluid changed via the flushing method at a different Toyota Dealer. I called the Toyota dealer where the transmission fluid had recently been changed who said it was normal to have metal shavings on the transmission fluid dipstick. Does anyone know what is going on and what I should do about it?
Could changing the fluid have damaged my transmission? Should I have it changed again--drain and fill or perhaps flushed? Or could this damage the transmission?

Heater Not Working

My 1987 Camry has been out of comission for about a year and just got it back on the road. The heater is working intermitently. It takes about 30-60 minutes for the heater to come on. What I have checked out: Comes up to temperature in about 5 minutes. The mixing flap and the coolant value are connected together but they are not moving. They finally start working after the 30-60 minutes. When they are working it all seems to be fine. Lubed the cable and the flap and it will move back and forth like normal with no binding. I cannot figure out why this is happening. I move the temp control lever back and forth with nothing happening. When it starts working, the lever controls the temperature fine. Any ideas? All other heater controls appear to be working ok.

Help! Buttons Extremely Slow To Respond 07 Camry Hybrid

For the past week, every control (including steering wheel buttons) take *forever* to react.

When the car is started, the navigation system will come up fine but pressing a button, like destination won’t respond for several seconds (sometimes as long
as a minute). The same holds true for the phone menu, onscreen controls for disk, side panel buttons and everything else. Even if I use the steering wheel to call up the phone menu for example, it takes several attempts before it works. And it seems to be getting worse. We’re not seeing any errors on the screen either.

Has anyone else seen this problem? Does it require a “master reset” or something?

We bought the car at Carmax about two years ago and purchased their extended warranty. If necessary, we may need to take the car to them but before I
do, I thought I’d ask and see if anyone else has experienced this problem?

-aki

Ignoring the fact that the body in the middle will be a little different-looking, does anyone know whether it would be possible to change out the fenders and lights so as to make a credible-looking Camry out of an ES or an Avalon out of an LS? I'd also like to change out the grille and trunk emblems, logos on the wheels, etc. The interior details can stay, that's fine. Assume that cost is no object and I can obtain all the parts needed. How easy would it be to do this and make it look factory, at least to the casual observer?

Camry Le – Steering/pedal Question

Camry LE – Steering/Pedal question

Hello.

I have a 2007 Camry LE. I recall hearing or reading somewhere that the steering and gas pedal were different than some other cars in that they were highly computer-assisted or something of that nature. Reason I ask is that the steering is “softer / looser / more “play” in the wheel” than my previous car (Sebring sedan). And the gas pedal seems more sensitive.

Does this sound right/indicative of Camry LE? Where can I find out more about this computer system I heard about?

Thanks

Noise In Drivetrain Of 2007 Camry With 3.5 V-6

Hello from Michigan,

My name is Robert R of St. Clair Shores. I bought a new 2007 Camry LE with the 3.5 liter V-6, in January 2008. Since April of this year my Camry has been making a noise that sounds like steel wheels rolling on a concrete floor, when driving at 25mph and faster. The dealer says the transaxle fluid is at the proper level and clean. No mention is made in the owners manual about how to check this fluid yourself and there is no dipstick. I recently discovered a Chilton Manual for Professional Technicians at the library that describes a plug in the bottom of the trans pan that allows checking, draining and filling the transaxle. The same ATF fluid lubricates the differential as the trans. Anyway, has anyone else had this problem? I have Bridgestone Turanza EL400 tires. I have read about these tires loosing air, and also, disintegrating - online, but nothing about excessive noise. Last month, I drove to Minneapolis with a side trip to Spring Green, WI. Wisconsin State Highway 23 is quite hilly and twisty which should have been to much for a drivetrain on the verge of breakdown. The car made this noise all of the way, but it never did breakedown, nor did the tires go flat. Actually, the tires hold air well, except for two times when screws punctured them. Comments please.

Hello everyone,

New to this forum but have had our 2007 Camry SE for 3 years now. The extended warranty JUST ended and the drivers side sun visor has a problem with staying up, very distracting and a hazard in the event of a front end collision.

I took it off for now but the **** stealership wants to charge $200+ for parts and labor. They said even if the car was still under warranty they wouldnt have covered it which is BS.

Has anyone found a solution to the problem? I googled the problem and it looks like several camry owners have gone through the same ordeal. I tried searching in this section and the interior section and nothing came up.

Best price I can find on a NEW visor is $99.00 which is crazy to me.
How To Get The Best Deal When Buying A New Toyota?

When I started to do research on my new Toyota, I came across this site that showed me everything I needed to know about how to buy a new car. There are more ways than you could think of that the dealership makes money off of every sale; doc fees, holdbacks, finance charges, and so many more. I went to the site and they sent me free information on how to negotiate with a car dealer, all the ways the car dealer is making money off of me, and how to purchase a new car at invoice price. After reading everything that they sent over to me, I was much more educated on the buying process and wanted to share that with all of you. I printed out the email, brought it to the Toyota dealership, and I walked out of there paying less than invoice price. If you are in the market for a new Toyota, this is some must read information and it is free. Take a look and please post any other advice you might have to help others about buying a new Toyota.
newtoyotaincentives.com

2007 Camry & Blackberry Curve 8330 – Fixes For Poor Audio Quality?

Hello,

I have a BlackBerry Curve 8330.

When I use it to play music (mp3s with a good high bit rate) the sound quality is excellent using the “official” headphones that came with the phone (3.5mm jack) and when I play music using the phone’s speakerphone.

But I run into problems when connecting the phone to 1) External computer speakers (good ones) and my car’s auxiliary input (2007 Camry) to play music off my Curve on the car speakers/system. In both these instances I am connecting the BlackBerry with a male-male 3.5mm connector wire (I understand that the Curve has a 3.5 mm headset/audio output, unlike most phones which are 2.5 mm outputs?).

I have tried several 3.5 mm male-male connector wires but get the following problems when playing music on both the external computer speakers and my Camry:

-- Low volume and muffled sound
-- A loud one-second burst of static/click when the music player goes to next song

Can you help me figure this out?

Thanks!

Rpm Patterns / Heater?

Just bought an 07 Camry LE. Great car. Runs quietest and smoothest of any mid size sedan I've driven. Question for the forum re: do these RPM patterns seem normal:

1. When she is first started (i.e., cold - live in Canada) she revs when idle (ie parked) at around 1,250 - 1,500. Shortly thereafter she'll drop to 1,000 and shortly after that to 750. For the rest of the ride she'll RPM at 750 when idle (eg at a stop light), which seems right to me. Does this pattern seem right to you?

2. When she is cold/just started, when I turn the heater on it increases the RPM by around 100-200 (eg if she was at 1,000 heater will spike it to 1100-1200). But after a while driving the heater does not seem to have impact on RPM. I assume this is normal - ie the spike in RPM at first is becase the engine is cold and she needs to rev up to produce heat, whereas later when the engine is warm it does not need to spike?

Seem like easy questions but wanted to ask anyway

Thanks!

How Much Coolant Level In Plastic Reservoir?

Hi,
I was looking at the engine just checking to see why my CEL (Check Engine light) went on,so I disconnected one the the battery cables for a few minutes, released the gas cap, which a lot of pressure was released, hooked the battery back up, and voila! no more CEL.

I also noticed the plastic coolant antifreeze container was practically empty except maybe 1/4" on the bottom with some sediment. Is this normal and while driving the temp gauge was in the middle, between HOT and COLD.

Should there always be a fair amount of coolant in the plastic reservoir or is this only a over-flow? I tried to remove the metal radiator cap, but could not.
I was going to disconnect this plastic reservoir,,there are two screws on the side, but there is also some other ones below this container. is it always wise or more practical to buy pre-mixed antifreeze from the Toyota dealer?

Thanks!

Camry Trim Levels With 6-spd Manual

Hi Folks,
I am considering "jumping ship" from Honda Accord to Toyota Camry and attempting to get info on 2010 Camry trim levels that have the 6-spd manual transmission (4-cyl, of course). My experience with sales people has not been stellar, they often do not have all the information I request. In surfing websites, I am finding conflicting information, some list one trim level with the manual transmission, others list three, and I just noticed one that listed three with manual transmission but the "base" trim level had a 5-spd manual. I want to walk into the dealership with as much information as possible, and that is going to be Friday (day after tomorrow).

Clarifications will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Ken

Engine Hesitation

1993 Camry 5sfe. The engine jerks/hesitates at one second intervals while idling, driving, accelerating. It is as if the ignition is turning on and off. The local experts are quick to say that it is: fuel pump, fuel filter, spark plug wires, plugs, distributor, dirt in fuel, fuse, etc. The odd factor that does not compute is that if I touch and hold the brake pedal just enough to activate the brake light switch, the problem goes away until I get off the brake! When I tell the experts about this, I get the "deer in the headlights" look. I can't see that the brake pedal is physically touching anything that might be shorting out, so there might be some computer interaction with the brake signal? Can you think of any other malfunction that I can check before I take it to the dealer? I try to avoid this solution since I am on a survival budget. (The most dependable car that I have is a 1990 Corolla that will keep on going until it collapses from rust!.) I got a new lead on why touching the brake causes the hesitation to go away. The vacuum is changing (reducing), and this may affect something. I was advised to look for a leak in one of the vac hoses. So far I haven't found a leak using propane, but I could use some ideas on where to look for other components that a vac leak would affect. I checked that the brake booster holds a vac, just in case there is a leak internally. Using the brake may be closing or causing an internal leak?! When I increase the throttle a little, it begins to surge. For no good reason I will next "Sea Foam" the throttle body.

2007 Camry Hybrid Question

Hi everyone:

I am new to the Camry forum and in need of your assistance. My 2007 Camry Hybrid was in an accident with a deer and a fair amount of damage was done. The sensor for the ABS was broken off. The sensor for the ABS is part of the main engine wiring harness and costs about $2100 plus labor to repair. My insurance company says that the harness does not need to be replaced, rather just a PIGTAIL soldered in place. I want to know if:

1. Can this/should this be done?
2. Is this legal as it is part of the ABS/braking system on the car?
3. Will this void the manufacturers warranty?

I am fighting with my insurance company to have them replace the entire harness as opposed to just "putting a bandaid in place, as the car is only 2 years old.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance everyone.

08 Camry Le V6 Engine Tapping During Cold Start While Driving

I had my Camry for only a month, and the engine has already been emitting this audible tapping noise driving right after cold start. As the temperature normalizes between hot and cold, the noise gradually quiets. Is this a problem for any of you 08 Camry V6 owners?

The Toyota service department is telling me that this is "normal". Asking the service guy why this sound never occurred in any past Toyota's, including the Camry's, he replied that the new engine for the Camry 07 and 08 is designed in a way where it will normally emit this tapping noise. This sounds a little too hard to believe. I even drove a Toyota manager's Camry SE 07 V6 and the tapping noise was constant when driving, even after cold start. His car only had 5000 miles. The manager even claims that there is noise from the engine, and he doesn't know why there is. With my mileage at around 2600, I hope I don't develop those problems!

If this is something occurring amongst all the Camry 08s, I would be quite surprised that no one has complained about such noise. I hope some of you can play close attention to the tapping noise, if there is one.

Thanks, and I hope to hear some responses from you guys.

08 Camry Se V6 Steering

I have heard several people speek of the steering on the Camry seems to be loose or has some problem. I did not find it at first. We have only had the car a short time and I still have not had enough time to evaluate the problem. I have quite a bit of experience with sports cars of all kinds and a few race cars. The steering does seem to grab every little ripple in the road and any bump or dip. I am not sure why this is, however some cars set up for the track feel this way but they are RACE CARS not to be driven on the street. On another forum I chewed some poor guys but for whining about this. I am sorry I did not give him a chance to explain further. The truth is the last thing a new buyer wants to hear is a problem with the car they just laid out big bucks for. But back to the issue it is real I have found the steering flops left in a hard turn and you can feel it pull the wheel if you drive in a circle in a parking lot. I have also felt it in a left hand turn driving on the street. The street is a 90 left hand turn by my house but you can drive it at 20 MPH or faster. Some people have washed out and went into the guys yard that lives on that corner. So it is a hard left hand and again the wheel pulls hard if I was not holding it tight it would go full left and the car would crash or spin.
The issue with the road surface is another head scratcher,is this just agressive steering? I would not want my grandmaw driving it with this kind of steering. If Toyota set up the steering to have optional ESC and the car reacts wrong because of that not being installed ,maybe they should have to install it to correct this problem. please post your steering evaluation and lets see if anything gels. i do not like the little side ways jerks the car does when youb hit a small dip or bump. Our roads here in Norther New Mexico are anything but good so I have the surface to feel all this. The rest of the car seems ok but I am still under a K miles on the car. remember others have felt this but were blown off as paranoid.

New Camry Se V6 Blue Ribbon

I love this car I don't get to drive it my wife grabs it every day and i get our van to drive.
But I did get to run it around for the weekend. I had to dodge a moron who ran a stop and when I nailed it to get out of his way I speeled that is speeding and squeled the tires. I was impressed it left rubber. I was more impressed it did it at about 6500 ft alt. I hear some bad raps about Camry but the car feels real good right now. Maybe after a few thousand I will have gripes but I am a gear head so I will work through them.
I hope my dealer is as good as people tell me they are. Anyway I am stoked about this cool ride We got the 18" TRD wheels and that dresses it up a little and that blue paint is real nice.

I get to drive it more now not enough however not enough since she still drives it to work.
I guess you guys are not happy since no one made a comment 0 nada zip about my new ride. Well I guess thats because you do not have an SE V6 with 18"TRD rims and JBL sound which kicks butt. Sorry sucker if you want to play you got to pay. Words from the West Coast Chopper man $ right in the palm suckers

Possible Option For 2008 Camry Le V6

Please don't shoot the newbie...

I'm already talking to the dealer about the car. After test-driving a number of cars, I know I really want the Camry LE. Yes, the V6

I realize parts of these questions are covered in other threads here and there, but I'd appreciate help on several options, please. I'm trying to keep the cost down, but I only buy a new car about every ten years, and I don't want to be unreasonably cheap.

I presume the Vehicle Stability and Traction Controls just make sense, so I'll add them. That also adds a 16 inch spoke alloy wheel, according to the Toyota site's Build feature. Good enough, or are the "16 steel wheels...and full wheel covers" okay? If they mean hubcaps, I'll pass.

Should I go for 17" or larger alloys? Worth it, or just nice to have?

A friend who has a 07 XLE V6 (and no tranny or revving problems, fwiw) didn't opt for the door guard strips. He said he thought 200 bucks was too much for "a couple of pieces of plastic". I like the look of the Camry without them far better, but I can only imagine what it'll look like five years of supermarket parking lots later if I *don't* get them.

And, I'll really miss having fog lights - I've gotten very used to them in the past ten years, but I'd rather have the LE than SE lines. I'm not a DIY-guy, so I'd have a shop that the dealer recommends install them if there's a reliable after market set, and it doesn't screw up the bumper or the electrical system - as a set did once on another car I owned. (This dealer doesn't install them.)

Your opinions? And, am I forgetting anything else?
Thanks in advance!

08 Camry Le V6 Vibration Problem

I'm new to this site and forum. Just bought an 08 Camry LE V6. After about 200 miles and driving on the freeway, I suddenly noticed a bad bouncing and vibration from the right rear. Pulled off the freeway thinking it was a tire going flat but tire looked ok. It felt like the wheel maybe lost a weight and became out of balance since it was worse around 70-74 mph. Over the next 100 miles (had to drive it to LA), it felt more like a strut problem. Taking it to dealership in morning. Anyone experiening similar problems with a new Camry? It came with Michelin tires. Problem seems to be the right rear.

I just bought a Japan built used 2007 Camry XLE V6 with 18,000 on and I'm wondering if the previous owner had this issue. I'm thinking if he did have this issue then he probably had it addressed. I wonder if my local Toyota dealer would provide me with service history on this vehicle. I have not notice any issue with transmission yet. However, I did notice strange clicking noise when I turn my steering wheel all the way to one side. Not very severe though.

2007 Toyota Camry Recall!

You all know how I love to surf the net. Came across some important information that you might need. I found this on a site that lists vehicles that could potentially have a recall issue.. Here's what I found :

2007 Camry -- > ON CERTAIN VEHICLES, DUE TO IMPROPER ASSEMBLY OF THE AIR BAG INFLATOR, WHICH IS USED IN THE SIDE AIR BAG, THE CURTAIN SHIELD AIR BAG, AND THE KNEE AIR BAG ASSEMBLY, SOME INFLATORS WERE PRODUCED WITH AN INSUFFICIENT AMOUNT OF THE HEATING AGENTS NECESSARY FOR PROPER AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT. IN THIS CONDITION, THE EXPANSION FORCE OF THE GAS MAY BE INSUFFICIENT TO PROPERLY INFLATE THE AIR BAG WHEN THE SRS SYSTEM IS ACTIVATED DURING A CRASH.

DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE SPECIFIC SRS AIR BAG. THE RECALL BEGAN ON APRIL 6, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT TOYOTA AT 1-888-270-9371, SCION AT 1-866-548-1851, OR LEXUS AT 1-800-255-3987.

Just one of my FYI posts :)

Kentuck Build 3/07 V6 Camry Le

Purchased/brought home my 2007 V6 Camry LE last night (Vin# 4T1BK46K37U035066) and according to TSB #TC002-07 does not appear to have any of the problematic 3rd/4th gear flare issues. Being a first year model 6-speed for the Camry I decided to purchase the 7yr/100k/$0-deductable GENUINE Toyota Extended Warranty just to play it safe. This 6-speed is unserviceable using a "sealed for life" thought process...there isn't even a dip stick to check for fluid level by the mechanically inclined! Besides getting "peace of mind" on what might be a 1st generation design flaw on the 6-speed tranny I priced various preventative maintenance Camry parts and threw caution to the wind. Dealer wanted over $1000 for the extended warranty so I purchased the warranty from a out of state Toyota dealer. Paid $880 (best I could find) using Troy Dietrich from Greenfield Toyota...very nice guy, highly recommended from all the web sites (toyotanation.com, edmunds.com, etc). For those deciding if paying for the warranty is worth the price here are my thoughts....2007 model Camry comes with the tire pressure air monitoring which has the integral valve stems which will have to eventually be replaced when you replace tires in 4-years. Each sensor is excess of $100 and "if" the technician doesn't break the dam thing off during the course of purchasing new tires the stem would have to be replaced simply because 4 years of uv deterioriation would render it dangerous not to consider changing said item. What concerns me the most is this being a new vehicle the tranny will most likely be problem free until the standard 3yr/36k runs out in which case when the tranny acts up we are talking "mongo" types of money being spent just to diagnose. I figure $880 is not a whole lot consdering paying $22.7 to buy the car. BTW, I purchased this Camry LE with V6 and just alloys for $22.6 from Queensboro Toyota in NYC. Best I could do considering I needed a replacement ride rather quickly as my trusted '99 Ford Crown Vic died a horrible death. Because i reside in NYC it is never convenient for car reapirs so with this extended warranty I get a loaner and piece of mind. After 7 years I normally get ride of my rides and replace anyway. I'm not thrilled with the front style of the 2007 Camry and suspect it will take a beating parked in the streets of NYC along with the malls in Long Island but time will tell. I am pretty handy around vehicles and plan on doing my own fluid and oil changes, pad replacements, and normal tuneups. These I can do according to the service manuals but the tranny and electronics requires either specialized tools or a shelf full of cars to diagnose hence another reason for the extended warranty. Finally for those who perform their own oil changes do what I did and get a dozen or so oil filters (toyotapartspeople.com!) and you are good to go. Be prepared to get dirty as these oil filters use just the filtering element and two o-rings. This sucks as I first thought what was wrong with the old cannister oil filters?...Toyota, what the hell were you thinking? Also don't pay the $60 for the wheel locks...Troy provided me with the toyota p/n which I cross referenced at autobarn...why pay $60 when you can pay $20.84 for the same McGard wheel lock set to secure your alloy wheels? Folks, if you live in the city like I do make sure you get wheel locks to guard your alloy wheels. I travel around quite a bit in my profession going to some real ugly places and coming back from a hard day's work to find your ride on milk crates is NOT fun!

Okay here goes.....

Just bought an '07 Camry SE a couple days ago. It's been raining, so I haven't been able to crawl in and around the car to check things out yet. Heck, I even bought the thing without having even driven it!?!?!

So first of all, do they all have 60/40 fold down split rear seats, or just the SE I was reading about on the 'Net? I kinda think that mine doesn't have them.

Are there any performance upgrades available for these things?

Is it being discussed that the tires and/or wheel size is on the "small" side?

I think I read "Toyo" on the sidewall today while scurrying to climb in the car from outa the rain. I've always known Toyo to be a soft compound tire..... are we going to have options for a tire with a longer tire life?

Are folk having luck with low-grade, mid-grade, or the expensive stuff?

I don't quite understand the "aux" for a "mini plug". Does this mean that I can get a "mini plug" at the local Radio Shack that will allow my MP3 ready radio to play my little hard drive I normally listen to while riding my motorcycle?

I'm parking outside..... in a less-than-desirable town. What 'affordable' steps should I take to better secure my vehicle?

Anyway, I've never had anything this powerful. Yeah, so it seems to almost stumble upon take off, but I would imagine after I've put the thousand mile break-in on the car.... that I can just floor it and act like a snot-nosed teenager. The '99 Tacoma I had only got 17-20 mpg and was slooooooow, I'm given to believe that I can expect to get better than that, and the SE ain't slow!

What can you tell me to expect, upgrades worthy of consideration, things to be on the lookout for, tire life, security, gas mileage, etc...... and this message board doesn't seem to be frequented by many people very often.... are there any other message boards for the Camry owner that I can visit??

Thanks in advance.

When we were shopping for our car my husband was definite about wanting a telescoping wheel. We have one on the '07 Camry we purchased. He says it doesn't telescope out far enough for someone like himself who has long arms and legs. I don't have that problem because I'm a short person.

Does anyone else have this problem with the telescoping wheel on their vehicle?

I think I mentioned in another post how impressed my husband and I are with how quiet our 2007 Camry is. Everyone who has ridden in it comments on the quiet too. I want to share something that happened yesterday when we were about to exit the car.

My husband usually has to sit a minute behind the wheel while I pick up my purse on put on my lipstick, or something. This time I was just sitting there waiting for him. After about 30 seconds, I said, "aren't you going to turn off the car?" We both laughed. It really is easy to not even notice that it is running.

Our Retirement Car

My husband and I are recently retired. We needed to purchase a car that was going to last us quite a long time. He did a lot of research and decided we needed to buy a Toyota. I was surprised because just about every car we've ever had was a Ford. His dad was an employee of a Ford Dealership for many years. We've never had a Toyota before.

We looked and test drove all kinds of cars to be sure a Toyota would suit our needs in addition to the need for it to last a long time. We bought our 2007 Camry in May and I just love it! There are of course a few things that we might have preferred to be different but overall, I believe it's going to be the best car we've ever had.

We purchased the LE model but had leather seats and heated lumbar installed for our comfort since we are senior citizens. I have a bit of back trouble so the heated lumbar is just the thing for a lengthy trip.

2007 Camry

For you Camry lovers, read up:

Camry has always been a conservatively-styled car, and that's not changing for 2007. The new design is fresher and younger than the previous generation, with a higher waistline and smaller windows. Bucking the obesity trend, the 2007 Camry is the same length as the previous generation (189.2") and only 1" wider (71.7"), so it should still fit in your garage. Curb weight is about the same as last year, between 3,285 and 3,495 lbs depending on trim level and engine selection. Front and rear fender wells sport a modest muscular bulge. Headlights and taillights have gone horizontal with housings wrapping the respective corners of the car. Overall, Camry's looking good not quite the youth magnet Toyota's hoping for, but a definite improvement over the fifth generation.
